国王的新衣(英语版)
作词 : 朱妮托尼
作曲 : 朱妮托尼
Once upon a time,
there was an emperor
who liked to dress up.
He was not interested in
taking care of his people.
He only cared about
what he would wear every day.
“I am the emperor!
I’m going to wear nice clothes.”
One day,
two strangers came to the emperor.
“We’re the best tailors in town!
Gold and silver thread,
sewn one by one
Sheeny, shiny nice clothes
You will be stunned!”
“The most beautiful clothes ever made
They’re invisible to fools!
You will look great!”
The emperor was very tempted.
“Amazing and beautiful clothes for me
The one and only clothes
in the world for me
Make it right away!
I’ll wear it. I can’t wait!
I’m sure I’ll look good in my new clothes.
If there are foolish servants, then I’ll know.”
The two tailors received
a lot of gold coins for the new clothes.
But instead of making clothes,
they just spent days playing and eating.
There wasn’t a single thread 477
hanging on the spinning wheel,
and the loom was empty.
“We are the fake tailors.
Yes, we are!
We don’t even know
what a needle is for.
We lie and earn gold coins.
More and more!
We are the best liars in town!”
A few days have gone by,
but the emperor didn’t hear any news
from the tailors.
“I wonder if they’re making it right.
I want to know. I’m worried.
I want to go and check on it.
But what if I can’t see the clothes?”
“Oh! I have an idea.”
The emperor called an old minister
who’s very honest.
“Go and see what my clothes look like.
Check them and tell me.”
Rrr, rrr!
Whirl, whirl!
Tap, tap!
The spinning wheel and loom
were all empty,
but the tailors were busy.
“Isn’t the fabric really beautiful, sir?”
The minister blinked
and tilted his head.
“Oh my!
Can’t you see it?”
“No way! No way!
Of course I can see it.”
The minister lied because
he didn’t want to be a fool.
The minister lied to the emperor.
“Your Majesty,
not to mention the fine colors,
the new clothes were dazzling!”
After a few days,
the emperor began to wonder again.
This time, the emperor called
a young servant who’s very clever.
The tailors busily moved their hands,
holding the threadless needles.
The young servant
couldn’t see the clothes either.
‘There is nothing!
I can’t believe it!
I’ll just pretend I can see the clothes.’
The young servant also lied
to the emperor.
“The best clothes I’ve ever seen!”
Finally,
the emperor’s clothes were made.
The emperor was excited
and went to see the clothes
with his servants.
“We worked really hard.
We worked day and night.
The one and only clothes for you!
It’ll fit you just right.
Fancy pants!
Fancy top!
And the cape that will make your heart throb!
It’s light as a feather.
And it’s also soft as a leather!
The one and only clothes for you!
Won’t you try them on?”
The tailor raised his arms high
as if he were offering clothes,
but the emperor
could not see anything.
‘Oh, no. I can’t believe it!
I don’t see anything!
Am I foolish?
I can’t see my own clothes.
It doesn’t make sense!
Oh, no. I can’t believe it!’
“Here are the
beautiful new clothes for you,
Your Majesty.”
The emperor took off all his clothes.
‘I don’t see a thing!’
‘I don’t see a thing!’
‘Where are all the clothes?’
But everyone pretended to see them!
“Will you help
Your Majesty get dressed?”
When they heard the tailor,
the servants pretended
to lift the hem and button it up.
‘What is happening?
Everyone’s amazed at
how beautiful my clothes are.
But why, oh, why can’t I see anything?
I’ll just say I can see, too.’
“They are fantastic!
Prepare for the march!”
The emperor was ready to
proudly march.
The band played the trumpet,
and the gate opened.
Outside the castle was
crowded with people
trying to see the emperor’s new clothes.
People were buzzing with excitement
to see the new clothes
that were invisible to fools.
At last, the emperor appeared,
wearing nothing but underwear!
People were very shocked,
but they all pretended
to see the clothes.
“How beautiful our
Emperor’s new clothes are!”
“I wish I could try them on, too.”
People praised the emperor.
There’s a proud emperor marching.
At that moment,
a little boy shouted.
“He’s wearing only underpants.
He’s wearing only underpants!
But he thinks he’s wearing clothes!”
The crowd began to murmur.
“The boy says
the emperor isn’t wearing anything.”
“Honestly, I think so, too.”
Everyone on the street
started laughing.
“The Emperor has nothing at all on!”
“Oh, I’m so ashamed.
What should I do?
Should I just keep marching
or quickly run away?
I was a fool.
Such a fool, indeed!
Why did I lie?
I shouldn’t have lied in the first place.”
The emperor’s legs trembled
and his face turned red,
because he heard people
laughing out loud.
The emperor hurried back to the castle.
